The Okambara Elephant Lodge is situated an hour east of Windhoek about 1600 m above sea level in the middle of the Okambara mountains. Getting from Okambara to Windhoek’s city center will take you about 1,5 hours (Site Map). You can choose between one of the 5 comfortable apartments in the main building, from one of the two typical rondavels (bungalows) or you can also stay in the Mountain House and enjoy the stunning view from its balcony.
The lodge is a family business run by family Schmitt. The main building with its four towers is similar to an old castle or Namibian fort – typical South African country style.
The meals are served in the rustic styled living room during the rainy season and on cold winter days an open fireplace warms up the big room. During summer the meals are served outside on the terrace which has direct access to the fire and braai (barbecue) area where local game meat is often prepared. From the terrace, you can also enjoy the view of the water hole where different antelopes are common guests as well as porcupines.

The fort
Five big and comfortable apartments stand at your choice. Some of them are specially designed for families with two separate bedrooms. The others are spacious double rooms all furnished in typical Namibian style.
The Rondavels
Rondavels are typically African bungalows with thatched roofs. The two rondavels at Okambara are equipped for two people and also have ensuite bathrooms. The rondavels are situated a walking distance away from the lodge area.
Chalets
Okamura built 4 new chalets new in 2018. They are ideal for two people. Each chalet has its own terrace with a great view of nature and the newly built dam, around which waterbuck, impalas and other animals cavort. This accommodation also has a separate bedroom and bathroom (shower / toilet)
Mountain house
The mountain house has a spacious balcony with a wonderful view of nature and a small garden. The mountain house is perfect for 4 people. It has two separate living units, each with a bedroom with two king-size beds and a bathroom (shower/toilet). In the heart of the house is a large living room with a minibar.
